Energy Awareness Campaign Introduced by Energy NL - Focus on Green Hydrogen
In a bid to drive the local sustainable development of the energy industry and seize opportunities for its membership, both locally and globally, Energy NL has launched a new campaign called Wind At Our Backs. This initiative, unveiled on January 25, 2023, in St. John's, NL, focuses on green energy production and aims to position Newfoundland and Labrador as a global leader in this field.
Newfoundland and Labrador's abundant resources, including wind, fresh water, and coastline, along with its strategic location, make it uniquely positioned to lead in green energy production. The province's potential in this area has already caught the attention of international markets, with the U.S. states of Massachusetts and New York expressing interest in acquiring renewable energy from Newfoundland and Labrador before production begins. Additionally, markets like Germany and other European countries have shown interest in buying the province's green energy once production commences.
Energy NL represents approximately 460 member organizations worldwide that are involved in various aspects of the energy sector, including supply vessels, carbon reduction technologies, engineering solutions, and law firms. Members of Energy NL are active in all areas of the supply and service sector and include a diverse range of businesses, such as offshore supply vessels, carbon reduction technologies, and law firms. These members are uniquely positioned to drive wind and green hydrogen development for Newfoundland and Labrador.
The launch of the Hibernia oil field 25 years ago revolutionized the province's industry and workforce, and wind development presents another once-in-a-generation opportunity. A new sector built on renewable and green energy sources like wind can help fuel economic benefits for Newfoundland and Labrador for generations. The Wind At Our Backs campaign aims to highlight this potential and provide Newfoundlanders and Labradorians with facts about the opportunity and its benefits, allowing the province to move forward and embrace this moment together.
Charlene Johnson, Energy NL CEO, stated that sustainable energy development is vital for a greener future. She added that the province sees wind development as the next evolutionary step in the expansion of its energy sector. The Wind At Our Backs campaign is designed to create awareness of the potential for wind developments and green hydrogen production in Newfoundland and Labrador.
