EPA's request for cancellation of Shuwaikh Police Station site, previously owned by MC, approved for environmental reasons.

The ol' Shuwaikh Police Station site in Third Shuwaikh, once slated to be a law enforcement hub, is now up for grabs thanks to the Municipal Council Capital Governorate Committee giving the green light to the Environmental Public Authority's (EPA) request to yank the land for eco-friendly purposes.

At yesterday's meeting, the committee brainstormed more than just that. They mulled over modifying a decision to accept a company's contribution for building a multi-story car park in the East area, Block 7, and jazzing up nearby public spaces.

A walkway proposal by member Engineer Abdul Latif Al-Da'i also went under the spotlight during the meeting.

The committee also took a stab at resolving a tiff revolving around a letter from a family in the Al-Dahiya area, Block 4, regarding the construction of a service corridor for the family council.

Although the EPA's decision means the site now belongs to Mother Nature, the details on what these environmental purposes entail or what the future holds for the old station have yet to surface. The new plans for the site will need to adhere to the environmental goals proposed by the EPA while ensuring they meet all relevant regulations.
