Deutsche Bahn Closes Railway Line Between Pegnitz and Hersbruck for Technical Inspections
Starting Friday, September 19, 2025, Deutsche Bahn (DB) has closed the railway line between Pegnitz (district of Bayreuth) and Hersbruck (district of Nuremberg Land) due to technical inspections of several century-old bridges in the Pegnitz valley. The duration of the closure is currently uncertain or indefinite.
The DB press office has announced that replacement bus services will be provided to ensure smooth connectivity between Pegnitz and Hersbruck. These buses will run hourly and will connect Pegnitz and Hersbruck, as well as other locations such as Bayreuth, Nuremberg, and Neuhaus.
The inspections, renovations, and modernizations have been planned for a long time and are necessary due to the complex topography of the location. The closure does not affect regional trains on the Hersbruck-Nuremberg route, and other regional trains will continue to run on this route.
Regional trains 30, 31, 32, and 38 are affected by the closure. The DB press office provided information about the replacement bus services, stating that they will serve connections between Pegnitz, Hersbruck, Bayreuth, Nuremberg, and Neuhaus.
