Europe's Electric Truck Revolution Faces Hurdles
Electric trucks are poised to revolutionise Europe's decarbonisation strategy, reducing fossil fuel dependency and driving industrial growth. However, the transition faces challenges that need to be addressed.
In China, the shift towards electric trucks has been rapid, with the share surging from 4% in 2023 to 24% in 2025, and forecasts expecting half of all new trucks sold to be electric by 2028. Meanwhile, in Europe, the adoption of electric trucks has been slower, hindered by insufficient charging infrastructure, sluggish grid connection procedures, and inconsistent national incentives.
The Blueprint 2030 report calls on the European Commission and national weather services to coordinate action in delivering CO2 standards, incentivising clean fleet uptake, rebalancing operating costs, and building the charging network backbone. The next five years will define Europe's role in the global electric truck market, with the potential to significantly reduce emissions and drive industrial growth.
