EU's German Wildfire Module Successfully Combats Extremadura Blaze

The German Wildfire Module, deployed in Spain as part of the EU civil protection effort, has been actively combating wildfires in the province of Extremadura. The team, based in Aldeanueva del Camino, has been working tirelessly to contain the blaze, with both day and night shifts making significant progress.

On Wednesday, a team of around 20 personnel with 7 fire trucks tackled the wildfire in challenging terrain. They discovered and extinguished hotspots, creating control lines using manual tools. The gusty winds made their task more difficult, but their efforts were successful in preventing further spread. The deployment area for the following day was defined in the morning, with the team ready to continue their work.

The Bonn Fire Department joined the effort on August 22, 2025, sending 40 personnel with 8 fire trucks to work in two separate deployment areas. They built on the progress made by the previous day's team, extinguishing hotspots and creating control lines. The use of tactical fires (backfires) by Spanish personnel has also helped to contain the blaze. The deployment areas were handed over to local authorities in the evening, with the team returning due to safety concerns about operating at night in difficult terrain.

The wildfire in the province of Extremadura has been successfully contained through continuous ground and aerial firefighting efforts. The German Wildfire Module, along with other EU civil protection teams and local authorities, has worked tirelessly to achieve this result. The module's base of operations remains in Aldeanueva del Camino, Spain, ready to continue their work as needed.
