FKS Raid Uncovers Illegal Employment in Cologne Restaurants

A nationwide focus check led by the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) at the Main Customs Office Cologne has uncovered illegal employment in several Cologne restaurants. Over 100 inspectors visited 38 businesses and found three cases of illegal employment.

The inspections, part of a broader nationwide effort, involved multiple regional forces. In one instance, a 45-year-old Vietnamese man, later identified as Nguyen Van Tuan, was found working illegally at a restaurant in Erftstadt. He attempted to deceive inspectors with false identity information. Two other individuals, a 23-year-old Brazilian woman and a 28-year-old Indian man, were also discovered working illegally in separate Cologne restaurants.

Investigative proceedings have begun against Nguyen Van Tuan and the owner of the restaurant where he was employed. Further evaluation is underway to ensure all inspected employees are properly registered for social security and not improperly receiving social benefits. The case against Nguyen Van Tuan is being handled at the Cologne labor court.

The FKS inspections highlight the ongoing issue of illegal employment in the gastronomy sector. Follow-up inspections may be necessary to ensure compliance with minimum wage laws and proper registration of employees for social security.
