Saval Foods LLC, a fourth-generation Jewish family-owned company based in Elkridge, Maryland, has announced the acquisition of Pastore's Italian Wholesale Distributor. This move aims to expand Saval's Italian food service base, particularly focusing on the Pastore’s Sun of Italy brand.

The acquisition positions Sun of Italy for meaningful growth in product variety and market reach. The Sun of Italy brand, launched by Pastore's in 1982, has been a staple in the Italian specialty products market for over four decades. With this acquisition, Saval Foods intends to leverage Pastore’s established brand recognition and distribution networks to enhance its product offerings and expand its market reach in Italian cuisine.

Mike Pastore Jr. is joining Saval Foodservice as business development director for Sun of Italy. His father, Mike Pastore Sr., owner of Pastore's, grew up on Lombard Street and has a long-standing connection with Saval Foods. The dedication to quality and service of Pastore's aligns closely with Saval's own values.

The addition of experienced Pastore staff and leaders at Saval will ensure a smooth transition. Saval Foodservice delivers quality ingredients, culinary solutions, and personalized service to restaurants, hospitality groups, and institutional kitchens across multiple states. The company's manufacturing division, Deli Brands of America, produces premium deli meats and proteins sold nationwide.

Saval Foods consists of three divisions: Saval Foodservice, Deli Brands of America, and 1932 Specialty Produce & Meat. 1932 Specialty Produce & Meat provides fresh produce and fresh-cut meat solutions to restaurants and institutions. Brian Saval, president of 1932 Specialty Produce & Meat and EVP of Saval Foodservice, is proud to carry on the Pastore family's 127-year legacy.

Pastore's, based in Baltimore, was founded in 1898 and supplies premium Italian products to retail customers and local delis. The acquisition aims to provide restaurant operators greater access to Italian specialty products, positioning Saval Foods as a one-stop-shop for a wide range of high-quality food products.

While specific details on the terms of the acquisition and post-acquisition changes were not available, the acquisition is expected to have a significant impact on the Italian food service market. As Saval Foods introduces the Sun of Italy brand to its customers, it is poised to offer a more diverse and expansive range of Italian specialty products to its foodservice customers.

  1. The acquisition of Pastore's Italian Wholesale Distributor by Saval Foods is anticipated to improve their supply chain, particularly in the food-and-drink sector, focusing on Italian products.
  2. The finance department at Saval Foods may experience growth due to the expansion of their business, as the company now aims to offer a more diverse range of Italian specialty products in the general-news market.
  3. The lifestyle of restaurant operators is likely to change with the acquisition, as they will now have greater access to a wider variety of Italian food-and-drink products from Saval Foods, creating a more convenient one-stop-shop for their needs.
