Freiburger Verkehrs AG Wins German Sustainability Award for Green Mobility
Freiburger Verkehrs AG (VAG) has been recognised for its commitment to sustainability, winning the German Sustainability Award in the 'Mobility Services' category. The award, to be presented on December 5, 2025 in Düsseldorf, honours VAG's holistic approach to sustainability and its progress towards climate-neutral mobility.
VAG's success is built on a long-term strategy that combines new technologies, resource-saving processes, and regional engagement. The company is proud of this recognition, as expressed by board members Oliver Benz and Stephan Bartosch.
VAG is committed to reducing emissions in all aspects of its operations. For the first time, it applied CO2 accounting to a construction project, the track renewal from Landwasser to Betzenhausen, demonstrating its dedication to climate change mitigation even in the planning phase.
The company is working towards climate neutrality by 2035, using comprehensive CO2 accounting to identify and implement emission reduction opportunities. It sources its electricity from 100% renewable sources, including its own photovoltaic systems and regional wind power.
VAG also considers human rights and sustainability criteria in all its procurements, ensuring a responsible and ethical approach to business. The company is accelerating its transition to electric buses, with the second E-bus port and the commissioning of 22 new E-buses. By 2030, VAG aims to achieve climate-neutral mobility, with around two-thirds of its bus fleet already running electrically.
The German Sustainability Award, to be presented for the 18th time in 2025, honours VAG's dedication to sustainability. The company's holistic approach, commitment to reducing climate change impacts, and responsible business practices have led to this prestigious recognition. VAG continues to strive towards its goal of climate-neutral mobility.
