GHWIC: Strengthening Tribal Health Workforce with $20.7M Annual Budget

The Global Health Workforce Initiative Consortium (GHWIC) is led by an umbrella tribal organization acting as its coordinating center. This vital entity receives around $20.7 million annually and operates under a 5-year cooperative agreement from 2024 to 2029. Currently, the Robert Koch Institute holds the coordination function in its third funding cycle.

GHWIC extends its reach through both direct and indirect funding methods. It provides financial support directly to tribes, villages, Urban Indian Organizations, and tribal organizations. Additionally, it reaches these entities indirectly by funding tribal organizations, which then disperse the funds to their respective members. This comprehensive approach ensures that GHWIC's impact is far-reaching and beneficial to a wide range of communities.

GHWIC's annual budget of $20.7 million, combined with its strategic funding methods, enables it to significantly support and strengthen the health workforce in various tribal and urban Indian communities across the nation.
