GMH Group gains control over two divisions of Buderus Edelstahl GmbH, broadening rolled steel holdings and enhancing heat treatment capabilities, with focus on Georgsmarienhuette and Wetzlar locations for expansion.
The GMH Group, a leading full-range supplier of steel and pioneer in sustainable steel production, has announced its acquisition of Buderus Edelstahl. This move aligns with the GMH Group's strategic business areas of 'Circular Economy,' 'Green Steel,' and 'Heavy Forging.'
Founded in 1731, Buderus Edelstahl specializes in the mechanical processing and heat treatment of highly complex open-die forgings, as well as hot rolling mill operations for large dimensions. The company's diverse customer portfolio includes light vehicles, mechanical engineering, the truck industry, and wind power. With a highly industrialized production site in Wetzlar and a maximum annual processing capacity of approximately 360,000 tons of steel, Buderus Edelstahl brings a significant contribution to the GMH Group.
The acquisition, expected to be completed in the fourth quarter, is subject to closing conditions. The purchase price for Buderus Edelstahl has not been disclosed in the agreement.
Dr. Alexander Becker, CEO of the GMH Group, expressed his pleasure about integrating Buderus Edelstahl into the group, stating that it complements their portfolio in two key areas. He also welcomed the approximately 1,100 employees of Buderus Edelstahl to the GMH family.
Dr. Anne-Marie Großmann, CDO of the GMH Group, expressed her excitement about welcoming the new colleagues. The GMH Group plans to integrate the operating units of Buderus Edelstahl into the group in the fourth quarter. However, further details about the integration plans were not provided.
The GMH Group generates annual sales of approximately 2 billion euros and operates in more than 50 countries, employing around 6,000 people. The group is a member of the 'Association of Climate Protection Companies' and aims to become completely climate-neutral by 2039. It produces green steel and has been successful in this endeavour, as evident by its acceptance into the 'Association of Climate Protection Companies.'
The acquisition of Buderus Edelstahl is part of the GMH Group's strategic growth agenda. The other business units of Mutares SE & Co. KGaA, the current owners of Buderus Edelstahl, will remain in their possession after the acquisition.
Buderus Edelstahl has been owned by Mutares SE & Co. KGaA since February 2025. The company manufactures high-quality special steels and has been a significant player in the steel industry for centuries.
The GMH Group's acquisition of Buderus Edelstahl marks a significant step in its journey towards becoming a global leader in sustainable steel production and heavy forging. As the company continues to grow, it remains committed to its mission of producing green steel and contributing to a more sustainable future.
