Gold mining company, Asante Gold Corporation, pledges commitment to socio-economic growth - General Manager's assurance.
Asante Gold Corporation's Vice President and General Manager, George Nutor, has affirmed the company's dedication to the socio-economic development of the host communities near Chirano Gold Mines following its recent acquisition. During a gathering with local residents, traditional authorities, and other dignitaries, Nutor unveiled thirteen newly completed projects valued at approximately GH₵615,000, funded by the Chirano Sefwiman Foundation.
At the event, Nutor highlighted the Foundation's mission to improve the socio-economic and living standards of residents in the catchment communities. These projects will not compromise the corporate responsibility programs of the mine, Nutor explained, and are part of the Foundation's ongoing commitment to providing for the needs of local communities.
The Chirano Sefwiman Foundation, established with a US$2 million endowment, complements the annual budget allocation for community development by the Community Relations Department. Since its inception, the Foundation has financed scholarships for 60 tertiary-level students from the 20 catchment communities of Chirano Gold Mines, covering tuition, accommodation, and stipends. Additionally, the Foundation has donated various projects to the communities, including mechanized boreholes for potable water and other social amenities.
Communities like Ntrentrenso, Futa, Appiakrom, Kwanikrom, Surano, Anglo, Nsuonsua, and Subri have gained access to mechanized boreholes, while Paboase boasts new marker boards for its Primary and Junior High School blocks. Lawerkrom received a funeral/durbar grounds, while Ahwiaa and Akaaso requested and received large Refuse Skip bins and excavation and fencing of their landfill.
The Chirano Sefwiman Foundation has emphasized its mandate by catering to the specific needs of these communities. As Kinross Gold Corporation's Chirano mine continues to contribute to the local economy through employment and procurement opportunities, the Chirano Sefwiman Foundation's initiatives help further stimulate development in the region.
The Chirano Sefwiman Foundation, in alignment with the company's commitments, has allocated funds for development projects that focus on improving the socio-economic conditions of the catchment communities. These projects, including mechanized boreholes, scholarships, and social amenities, are financed by the Foundation, with the overall goal of enhancing the living standards of the residents.
