Government Launches €14.5M Animal Welfare Boost, Aiding Low-Income Families
The Government has launched a 14.5 million euro initiative to boost animal welfare. This includes a one million euro fund to aid low-income families with veterinary services and pet food.
The scheme, which began on October 1, 2024, will run until September 30, 2025. It offers co-financing for veterinary services and pet food, with 500,000 euros allocated to each.
All medical-veterinary acts and animal feeding products are eligible for support. The scheme prioritises low-income families, official collection centres, and zoophilic associations. The maximum limit for feeding support per family unit is 5,000 euros. Financial support for veterinary services will have maximum limits per beneficiary, though specific details are yet to be announced.
The Government aims to improve animal welfare through infrastructure development and support. This one million euro fund is part of a larger 14.5 million euro package. Applications for the support are now open.
