GST Rate Rationalisation Boosts Key Sectors in Uttar Pradesh

The recent GST rate rationalisation in India has brought relief to numerous key sectors, with handicrafts, food products, footwear, toys, textiles, and industrial goods among the beneficiaries. This move aims to sustain artisan families, improve MSME viability, and enhance export competitiveness.

In Uttar Pradesh, several handwork regions are set to gain from the reforms. Embroidery clusters in Lucknow and Varanasi will see embroidered garments become 6-7% cheaper, bolstering markets during festive and wedding seasons. The Bhadohi-Mirzapur-Jaunpur carpet cluster, with over 100,000 looms and over one lakh livelihoods, will benefit from a tax cut making carpets cheaper by the same margin.

Other sectors across the state are also expected to flourish. Moradabad's brassware industry will see retail prices reduce by nearly 6%, improving profitability during festivals. Agra's marble inlay craft, Parchinkari, will become more affordable for tourists and domestic buyers. The leather industry, employing over 1.5 million people, will make leather goods and footwear more competitive in domestic and export markets.

The GST rate rationalisation is poised to boost various sectors in Uttar Pradesh, from embroidery and carpets to brassware and marble inlay craft. These reforms aim to sustain artisan families, improve MSME viability, and enhance competitiveness, benefiting over a million livelihoods.
