Hattingen & Hamm Boost Traffic Safety with €3.25M Upgrades
Hattingen's Goethestraße/Schillerstraße intersection has been upgraded with a new traffic light system. The city spent around €50,000 on the project, which included converting parking access and updating signage. Meanwhile, in Hamm, the Goethestraße has reopened after a €2.75 million renovation project that significantly boosted bicycle traffic.
The Hattingen project saw the installation of a 'true' intersection traffic light, improving traffic flow and safety. The city covered the costs, with no external organizations mentioned. In Hamm, the Goethestraße reconstruction was a major milestone in the city's traffic transition, according to Mayor Marc Herter. The project, which took over a year, was funded mainly by grants, with the city contributing around €515,000. It covered approximately 720 meters and used around 2,400 tons of asphalt. The reconstruction provided safe driving conditions for all road users and freed up space for bicycle traffic, with dedicated bike lanes and separate paths. City building director Andreas Mentz thanked the planners and involved companies for their work on the project.
The upgrades at the Goethestraße/Schillerstraße intersection in Hattingen and the reconstruction of the Goethestraße in Hamm have improved traffic flow and safety, particularly for cyclists. The projects, funded mainly by the cities and grants, demonstrate their commitment to enhancing infrastructure for all road users.
