The BYD Song L, priced at approximately RMB 189,800 (equivalent to $26,400), has made its mark as the second shooting brake-style SUV under the BYD Group's umbrella. This mid-size electric vehicle, launched on December 15, 2023, boasts impressive specifications that make it a strong competitor in the electric SUV market.

The BYD Song L is equipped with a 230 kW (approximately 308-313 hp) motor, delivering a torque of 360 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 201 km/h. The standard drive is rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive options available for some trims, offering up to 500+ hp and a 0-100 km/h time under 4 seconds.
The vehicle's performance is underpinned by an 87.04 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery, which provides a CLTC range of 662 km. Fast DC charging from 30% to 80% takes approximately 0.4 hours, or about 25 minutes. The battery's energy consumption is efficient at 14.8 kWh per 100 km.
Intelligent Driving and Safety Features
The BYD Song L is equipped with a LiDAR sensor and NVIDIA DRIVE Orin X chip, enabling Level 2+ autonomous driving capabilities such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and emergency braking. The vehicle also features the DiPilot intelligent driving system and DiSus damping system for adaptive suspension and ride comfort. The regenerative braking system enhances energy recapture.
Dimensions and Interior
The BYD Song L is a 5-door SUV with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm and dimensions of 4,840 / 1,950 / 1,560 mm. It seats 5 passengers and has a curb weight of 2,265 kg. The interior includes a panoramic glass roof, ambient LED lighting, and climate-controlled seating with heating and ventilation for the front seats. The flat floor design provides generous rear legroom.
Pricing
At launch in 2025, the Intelligent Drive Edition with a 662 km range is priced around 215,800 yuan (approximately $30,070). Other variants, including the base model, are reported to start near $25,400.
