Increased Financial Support for Brandsec to Combat Online Phishing Offenses
Brandsec, a leading company specialising in brand protection and domain name management, has received a significant boost in its fight against online fraud and brand impersonation. The Australian Government's Industry Growth Program has awarded Brandsec an AUD231,000 grant to support the development of Unphish, their innovative online enforcement and takedown software.
Unphish is a response to the growing threat of online fraud and brand impersonation that Australian businesses face. Cybercriminals create approximately 1.5 million phishing sites every month, targeting enterprises, government departments, and small and medium businesses alike. Fake social media profiles now account for 16% of all phishing attacks.
The grant will be used to further develop Unphish, a tool that automates and streamlines the takedown process across multiple platforms. Through matched grant funding, the program aims to assist recipients like Brandsec in scaling up operations, transforming their businesses, and bringing ground-breaking solutions to the market.
Unphish aims to deliver a centralised, expert solution to swiftly counter online threats and stay ahead of cybercriminals. With the AI-driven engine integrated into the software, Unphish is anticipated to become a valuable resource for Australian businesses protecting their digital presence. The AI-driven engine will also enhance compliance with various regulations.
The integration of the AI-driven engine is expected to significantly accelerate the removal of malicious digital properties. Unphish swiftly eliminates fake websites, fraudulent social media profiles, and other forms of online brand misuse. This robust online enforcement tool is anticipated to provide Australian businesses with the most effective solution available for maintaining their online brand integrity and protecting themselves from financial loss due to online fraud.
Ed Seaford, Brandsec's Enforcement Director, stated that the funding will allow for the fast-tracking of Unphish's development. The development of Unphish is expected to help Australian businesses maintain their online brand integrity and protect themselves from the growing threat of online fraud.
The Industry Growth Program supports startups and small and medium enterprises undertaking commercialization or growth projects. This grant is a testament to the potential of Unphish and its ability to meet the unmet global demand for such services. International companies from the US, United Kingdom, Germany, and Singapore have shown interest in Unphish by Brandsec, with collaborations expected primarily in these countries.
With Unphish, Brandsec is poised to provide a solution that is not only effective but also efficient, helping Australian businesses stay one step ahead in the fight against online fraud and brand impersonation.
