Increased MVV Prices: The Amount You'll Pay for the Strip in the Near Future

In an announcement made recently, Bernd Rosenbusch, the CEO of MVV, revealed changes to the fares for Munich's public transport system. The adjustments aim to finance the comprehensive system and improve services.

Firstly, the S monthly ticket, commonly known as the MVV social ticket, will remain unchanged. However, other fares will see an increase. The strip card price will rise from 17.80 euros to 18.70 euros. The single day ticket for children will continue to cost 2 euros, while children's day tickets will increase by 10 cents to 3.80 euros.

For adults, the single fare for Zone M or Zone 1 will increase by 40 cents to 10.10 euros. The monthly ticket for Zone M or 2 zones will cost 71.40 euros instead of the current 68.40 euros. The price of bike day tickets will increase by 10 cents to 3.70 euros.

The good news for frequent travellers is that single zone trips with single tickets, day tickets, and strip cards will decrease in Zones 2 to 12, requiring only one strip instead of two.

The price of the group day ticket will increase from 30.50 euros to 32.60 euros. The U21 strip card will also see an increase, going from 9.80 euros to 10.20 euros. The single fare for short distance will also increase by 10 cents to 2.10 euros.

Bernd Rosenbusch emphasised the need for these fare adjustments, stating that the comprehensive system must be financed through fare revenues. He also mentioned the ongoing efforts to provide reliable passenger information, with 725 DFI displays at stops currently in operation, and another 475 digital displays planned. Passenger information is now provided for these buses outside the state capital as well.

From 2026 onwards, children will be able to travel free of charge on the single day ticket. This move is aimed at promoting the use of public transport among younger generations.

With these changes, MVV continues to strive for a reliable and efficient public transport system in Munich, serving over 1,500 regional buses and 500 city buses daily.
