India's FM Sitharaman: Global Economic Order at Crisis Point, India Stands Strong
India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has delivered a keynote speech at the Kautilya Economic Conclave 2025, held in 2025. She addressed the current global economic order, describing it as both a crisis and an inflexion point.
Sitharaman pointed out significant asymmetries in trade, finance, and energy as major distortions in the current global landscape. She noted that the global order is undergoing a structural transformation, with trade flows, alliances, and financial systems being reshaped by geopolitical shifts.
The minister highlighted India's economic strength as a stabilising factor in this turbulent environment. She stressed that India's growth is firmly anchored in domestic factors, minimising the impact of external shocks. However, she cautioned against complacency, acknowledging the difficult trade-offs faced by developing nations.
Sitharaman flagged the growing impact of technological and financial disruptions on nations. She called for active participation of developing countries in shaping global outcomes, emphasising the importance of dialogue and openness, as demonstrated at the Kautilya Economic Conclave.
