IRCC Backlog Drops Below 760,000 for Fifth Month
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has achieved another milestone in its backlog reduction. As of April 30, 2025, the backlog stood at 760,200 applications, the lowest in six months and below 1 million for the fifth consecutive month.
The department has seen a consistent decline in its application backlog. In April alone, the backlog decreased by 2.53%, down from 779,900 in March. This reduction is a result of IRCC's strategic efforts to improve processing times. The total application inventory, including both backlog and those in progress, reached 2,041,800 by the end of April, an increase of 65,100 from the previous month.
IRCC has been tackling the backlog through various initiatives. It has bolstered staffing levels, enabling more applications to be processed. The department has also embraced digital transformation to streamline processes, making them more efficient. Furthermore, IRCC has been prioritizing high-impact applications and implementing targeted initiatives to expedite processing times.
The reduction in IRCC's application backlog is a significant achievement, marking the fifth consecutive month below 1 million. With a backlog of 760,200 applications, the department continues to make progress towards its goal of reducing processing times and clearing the backlog. These improvements are a result of IRCC's commitment to enhancing its services and responding to the evolving needs of applicants.
