JPMorgan Chase Faces Court-ordered Halting of Million-Dollar Lawsuit Against Executives of a Fintech Company, According to Reports

In a significant turn of events, the UK High Court has ordered American banking giant JPMorgan Chase to discontinue its €917 million lawsuit against the directors of Greek fintech firm Viva Wallet. This decision effectively halts the Greek litigation initiated by JPMorgan in January 2025.

The ruling, granted by Judge David Foxton, was based on JPMorgan's violation of the shareholder agreement between the bank and Viva's majority shareholder, Werealize. The court found that proceeding with the lawsuit in Greece breached contractual obligations.

JPMorgan had sued four Viva executives and Werealize, alleging that the executives took illegal actions depriving JPMorgan of the value of its investment. However, Viva Wallet CEO Haris Karonis and Werealize welcomed the ruling, calling JPMorgan’s lawsuit “meritless litigation” aimed at obstructing their contractual rights.

The legal battle between the two parties continues on other fronts, including separate defamation suits filed by both parties in Greece, and certain unresolved court matters. Yet, the injunction means JPMorgan cannot continue its main damages suit in Greece for now, allowing Viva Wallet and its directors to focus on growing the business.

A spokesperson for WeRealize, the company owned by Viva's CEO Haris Karonis, has called on JPMorgan to "engage in productive discussions" about Viva's future. Meanwhile, JPMorgan's spokesperson has stated that the bank will continue to address the litigious tactics of Werealize, and that many matters are still being resolved by the courts.

This development comes amidst a flurry of other financial news. MultiBank.io has partnered with Fireblocks and Mavryk to launch a $10 billion real estate tokenization platform. Meanwhile, Everclear has secured a strategic investment from the NEAR Foundation to scale cross-chain clearing.

Elsewhere, the crypto world has seen the launch of a crypto trading bot for individual and enterprise traders, and the presale of an Ethereum-based memecoin, PEPETO, surpassing $5.5 million. Analysts are also predicting more rallies for two of the 'strongest' memecoins, hinting at more altcoin explosions.

In the world of fashion, Jackson.io's Sharkz NFT has landed in Harajuku, Tokyo with a debut fashion collaboration 'Sharkz-Up Tokyo'. This news serves as a reminder that while the legal battles between JPMorgan and Viva Wallet continue, other sectors of the economy continue to thrive.

  2. The court found that pursuing the lawsuit in Greece breached contractual obligations, a decision that has resulted in the dismissal of JPMorgan's claims against the executives and Werealize.
  3. As the legal battle persists on other fronts, Viva Wallet and its directors are now free to focus on growing their business, an option that was previously impeded by the litigation.
