A nationwide contest to name Kazakhstan's first Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in the Almaty region's Zhambyl region has gathered over 20,000 proposals. The Atomic Energy Agency, led by President Tokayev, is reviewing submissions that fall into three categories: geographical, personal, and technical/energy themes.
The contest was initiated following President Tokayev's proposal and is now being organized by a commission of specialists. Names like 'Shafik Chokin', 'Abai Kunanbayev', and 'Kanysh Satpaev' have been suggested, alongside geographical locations such as 'Balkhash', 'Iliyskaya', and 'Ulkens'. Technical and energy-themed names like 'Zharyk', 'Kuat', 'Beit Atom', and 'Energiya' are also among the proposals.
The commission is currently analyzing the submissions and will discuss them once all proposals have been collected. A prize awaits the authors of the winning name. Two NPPs are planned for the Almaty region, with another one on the Caspian coast, making this naming contest a significant step in Kazakhstan's nuclear energy development.
With over 20,000 proposals received, the nationwide contest to name Kazakhstan's first NPP is nearing its conclusion. The Atomic Energy Agency's commission is diligently reviewing the submissions, ensuring that the chosen name reflects the country's rich history, culture, and aspirations for its nuclear energy future.
