Kicking off its IV Pantry Campaign, Eureka donates $25,000

The Illinois Valley Food Pantry, a vital resource for hundreds of families in La Salle County and surrounding areas, has launched a capital campaign to purchase and renovate a new, larger building. The pantry, established in 1982, aims to continue its mission of helping those experiencing food insufficiency due to low income, unemployment, or depletion of public aid[1].

The campaign, named "Feeding the Future," has received a significant boost from Eureka Savings Bank. The bank has initiated a fund drive to support the purchase of the new building, with a donation of $25,000[1][2]. This generous contribution marks the first at the Diamond level for the campaign[3].

The new building, a 10,000-square-foot structure located at 4133 Progress Boulevard in Peru, will cost approximately $750,000 for the building and necessary renovations, including two large walk-in coolers[1]. The pantry, which currently serves about 750 families per month from 12 area towns and cities, expects to move to this new location well before the end of 2025[1][2].

Donations to the Feeding the Future campaign can be made online at www.ivfoodpantry.com, and more information is available by calling 815-224-3658[1]. The campaign aims to cover the costs of the building and renovations, with levels of giving including Platinum ($15,000), as well as levels for ten, five, and one thousand dollars[1].

Mary Jo Credi, the executive director of the Illinois Valley Food Pantry, will join WLPO's Rod Thorson on Tuesday morning to discuss the campaign[4]. The pantry is grateful for the support received so far and encourages the community to join in this effort to expand its capacity and continue serving those in need.
