Kiel Customs Raid Finds Six Suspected Illegal Residents in Catering and Hotel Industry
On September 19, 2025, the Kiel Customs Office's Financial Control of Illegal Employment (FKS) team conducted inspections in the catering and hotel industry across multiple cities in Schleswig-Holstein. The operation targeted 27 employers and interviewed 151 employees to ensure adherence to minimum wage laws and social security obligations, and to investigate potential illegal employment and improper receipt of social benefits.
The inspections, which took place in Steinberg, Kappeln, Hohwacht, Schönberg, Lübeck, Bad Oldesloe, Trittau, Ahrensburg, Ratzeburg, and Ahrensbök, uncovered six cases of suspected illegal residence. One of these cases also involved suspected document forgery. The affected businesses were numerous gastronomy and hotel establishments throughout these locations. The operation aimed to maintain fair employment practices and prevent exploitation of workers.
