Largest Battery Storage in Eon Edis' Network Coming to Kränzlin, Brandenburg

A significant development in renewable energy is set to take place in Kränzlin, Brandenburg. A private project developer is poised to invest in the municipal sector, financing the construction of the largest battery storage system in Eon Edis' network area. The project, slated to begin preparatory work soon, promises to bring substantial benefits to the municipality and the region's power grid stability.

The site, spanning approximately 1.5 hectares, is strategically located at a heavily loaded network node. This position allows the storage facility to provide crucial system services, including FCR, aFRR, and mFRR, which are vital for maintaining grid stability and reliability. The project's scale is impressive, with the potential for expansion to an astonishing 480 megawatt-hours of capacity.

The storage facility, with a capacity of 60 megawatts and 240 megawatt-hours, will be black-start capable. This means it can independently initiate the startup of the power grid in case of a blackout, further enhancing the region's resilience. Moreover, the facility will balance network fluctuations in real-time, ensuring a steady and reliable power supply.

The project includes the construction of two transformer stations and the renovation of a network connection point. The actual construction is scheduled to commence in 2026 and is expected to be completed by 2027. Despite the lack of a legal basis for compensation, the municipality of Kränzlin stands to gain financially from this significant investment in its infrastructure.

The largest battery storage facility in Eon Edis' network area is set to transform Kränzlin, Brandenburg. With its strategic location, robust capacity, and black-start capability, the project promises to bolster the region's power grid resilience. While the municipality will reap financial benefits, the broader community will enjoy the security and reliability of a stable power supply.
