Latvia's Deposit Refunds Get a Boost: Soon, Cards Accepted Too
A new European regulation is set to shake up the way deposit refunds work in Latvia. Currently, customers can only receive their deposits back as vouchers at the store. However, soon they will have the option to transfer these amounts to their payment cards.
The change comes as some shops have been struggling with change issues, leaving customers with no choice but to buy goods or lose their deposit money. DIO, the organization managing Latvia's deposit system, has confirmed that shops are not obligated to provide cash refunds. Instead, they must accept the deposit voucher, as stated by DIO's Chairman, Miks Stūrītis. The new regulation aims to provide customers with more flexibility and convenience when it comes to their deposit refunds.
The new European regulation will introduce a function to transfer deposit amounts to payment cards in Latvia. This change will give customers more options for their news, addressing the issues faced by some shops with change and providing a more convenient solution for consumers.
