Law firm Khaitan enhances its presence in South India through the hiring of corporate specialists from SAM and JSA firms.
Promode Murugavelu and Rakki Partani, two renowned experts in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and private equity, have joined Khaitan & Co as partners. Murugavelu will be based in Chennai, while Partani will be in Bengaluru.
Promode Murugavelu, a seasoned corporate lawyer, specialises in complex M&A transactions and private equity deals. He began his career at Dua Associates and later joined the erstwhile Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co in 2010. After the split in 2015, Murugavelu moved to SAM (Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co). He became a partner at SAM in 2016.
Murugavelu's extensive experience spans across various sectors, with a particular focus on the healthcare, manufacturing, edtech, and IT industries. He advises on cross-border M&A, court-based arrangements, compromises, capital restructurings, business consolidations, asset and business acquisitions, and joint ventures.
Rakki Partani, also a corporate law specialist, has close to 15 years of experience. She started her career at Wadia Ghandy & Co before joining J Sagar Associates in 2015. Partani became a partner at J Sagar Associates in 2020.
Partani's professional expertise lies in private equity, venture capital funding, mezzanine debt, general corporate, M&A, and real estate. With her addition, Khaitan & Co now has four partners in Chennai and 18 partners in Bengaluru.
