Leading Private Client and Bloodstock broker Weatherbys Hamilton set to be acquired by Brown & Brown.
Weatherbys Hamilton Acquired by Brown & Brown (Europe) Limited
Weatherbys Hamilton, a UK-based insurance broker specializing in private client, bloodstock, and farm insurance, has been acquired by Brown & Brown (Europe) Limited. This strategic move is part of Brown & Brown’s expansion in the UK insurance brokerage space.
Founded in 2012 as a joint venture between Weatherbys Bank and Executive Chairman Charles Hamilton, Weatherbys Hamilton has grown to operate from seven locations across the UK. The company's specialization in bloodstock insurance, a sector aligned with its traditional connections to horseracing and related activities, sets it apart as a niche broker focused on these specific insurance markets.
The acquisition by Brown & Brown (Europe) is positioned as a move to strengthen Brown & Brown’s footprint in private client and specialist insurance markets in the UK. Roger Weatherby, Chairman of Weatherbys Banking Group, has expressed his pride in Weatherbys Hamilton’s achievements and offered warm congratulations to the team. Charles Hamilton, the Executive Chairman of Weatherbys Hamilton, is proud of what they’ve built and excited to see the business grow within Brown & Brown.
Post-acquisition, all members of the Weatherbys Hamilton team will remain with the business. The company will continue to operate from their existing locations and trade under the Weatherbys Hamilton name as part of the Brown & Brown team. Carolyn Callan, CEO Retail at Brown & Brown (Europe), is pleased to welcome Weatherbys Hamilton to Brown & Brown.
Meanwhile, Gallagher has launched a new bloodstock, livestock, and aquaculture practice. The team, led by Sophie Chambers and Dan Fairweather, will be part of Gallagher’s UK Specialty division and will be responsible for clients globally. Edmondsons Limited, a London-based commercial lines insurance broker specializing in property and legal indemnity insurance, has been acquired by Hamilton Fraser, part of Global Risk Partners (GRP). The deal has received regulatory approval, but the consideration is undisclosed.
