LuLu Group Leads Retail Sector's Sustainability with Major Solar Initiative
LuLu Group has taken a significant stride towards sustainability with the launch of a major solar energy initiative. The retail giant has installed solar plants on the rooftops of five facilities in Dubai, partnering with Positive Zero for the project. This move places LuLu among the region's sustainability leaders and sets a new benchmark for the retail sector's role in the UAE's clean energy transition.
The solar initiative, launched in partnership with Positive Zero, involves installations at LuLu Hypermarkets in Al Warqa, Rashidiya, Dubai Investments Park (DIP), the LuLu Central Logistics hub in DIP, and the Regional Office in Al Qusais. Positive Zero is providing a complete turnkey service, handling the build, installation, and maintenance of all the solar rooftops.
LuLu Group's Director of Global Operations, Salim M.A, expressed the company's commitment to sustainability, stating that this solar initiative is a key step in reducing their environmental footprint. By harnessing solar power, LuLu Group is not only cutting costs but also demonstrating how retail can support the UAE's clean energy transition. The solar operation commenced at LuLu Group's Regional Office and is expected to be fully operational by November, with DIP logistics center and hypermarket outlets following in September and October.
Over the course of the lease, the solar plants are expected to generate more than 37 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy, preventing the release of over 25,000 metric tons of carbon emissions. David Auriau, CEO of Positive Zero, praised LuLu Group's commitment to sustainability and the potential of clean energy in the retail sector, placing LuLu among the region's sustainability leaders.
