Luxury sports car, the Bugatti Divo, exhibited at the Petersen Automotive Museum, expected to sell for approximately $9 million.

The highly anticipated auction of the Bugatti Divo during Monterey Car Week has come to a close, with the vehicle selling for a staggering $8.6 million. This figure marks a new world record for a Divo sale, surpassing its initial estimated range of $7-9 million.

The Divo, one of 40 units produced, is a testament to Bugatti's mastery of hypercars. Equipped with a powerful 1,500 hp engine, the Divo boasts an impressive torque of 1,180 ft lbs and a top speed of 236 mph. Its focus on cornering is evident, with 1,055 pounds of downforce, 198 pounds more than the Bugatti Chiron, and lateral acceleration that can deliver 1.6 g.

The Divo's athleticism was on full display at the Nardo circuit in Italy, where it beat the Chiron by eight seconds. This was achieved through fine-tuning of the chassis, steering, and suspension, as well as aerodynamic improvements such as new front and rear diffusors and a wider, adjustable rear spoiler.

The particular Divo that was auctioned had fewer than 800 miles on the odometer and had been displayed at the Petersen Museum’s “Hypercars: The Allure of the Extreme” exhibition. It is part of the Future Classics Collection, a roughly $30 million assemblage of 24 rare and valuable vehicles. Each car in the collection, including the Divo, is being offered without reserve.

The Bugatti Divo, despite its initial starting price of $5.8 million, is now expected to garner a higher price at the auction. This is not surprising, given its rarity and exceptional performance capabilities.

Other notable vehicles auctioned during Monterey Car Week include the 2021 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport, with an estimated selling price of up to $4.25 million, and the 2017 Pagani Huayra Roadster, with a high-end estimate of $3.6 million.

The Quail Auction, held during Monterey Car Week, featured over 100 lots, making it a significant event for car enthusiasts and collectors alike. The auction serves as a platform for showcasing some of the world's most coveted and valuable vehicles, offering a unique opportunity for bidders to acquire pieces of automotive history.
