Mahindra's upcoming Bolero Neo model caught during pre-launch visits
The Mahindra Bolero Neo, a compact and rugged SUV, is set to make its mark on the Indian automotive market. With a focus on meeting future fuel efficiency regulations, the next-generation Bolero Neo is being developed to offer a muscular design, practical proportions, and off-road capabilities, all at an affordable price.
Under the hood, the Bolero Neo is powered by a 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine, producing approximately 98.5–100 bhp and 260 Nm torque. The vehicle is equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox, driving the rear wheels, and supports micro-hybrid technology and an Eco mode to enhance fuel efficiency, delivering an estimated mileage of around 17.2 km/l.
The SUV seats seven, with a flexible cabin including a height-adjustable driver seat and split-folding third-row seats. Key features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB, and AUX connectivity, steering-mounted audio controls, power windows, keyless entry, cruise control, and a powerful air conditioning system with Eco mode.
The top-end variant (N10(O)) offers Mahindra’s Multi-Terrain Technology and a mechanical locking rear differential for improved off-road capability, rear power windows, and premium interiors featuring Italian upholstery and piano black accents.
Looking ahead, the upcoming new generation Bolero Neo is anticipated to bring significant updates, including a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a semi-digital or fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, possibly a panoramic sunroof, and the likely addition of a petrol engine variant and an automatic transmission option.
Comparatively, the Bolero Neo targets buyers needing a 7-seater diesel SUV with ruggedness and off-road features at an affordable price. It competes against the Tata Nexon, XUV300, and Hyundai Venue primarily on price and practicality but offers extra seating capacity, which these rivals lack. It is more utilitarian and off-road capable than typical urban SUVs like Nexon and Venue but less luxurious and powerful than the Land Rover Defender. Compared to the Isuzu D-Max pickup, Bolero Neo is less utility- and payload-focused but more passenger-friendly.
