Mainline service on Munich's S-Bahn once more is halted. - Main line of Munich's S-Bahn transportation system is closed for the second time.

This upcoming weekend, Munich's S-Bahn trunk line will experience another halt. Construction works on tracks, switches, and stations have forced Deutsche Bahn to impose "major adjustments to the timetable and replacement traffic" from Friday to Monday. Fear not, dear commuters! While the S-Bahn takes a pause, other transport alternatives are ready to carry you forward.

The affected area encompasses the section between Pasing, Leuchtenbergring, and Giesing. From Friday evening to Monday morning, no S-Bahn trains will grace these tracks. To accommodate this, many lines will be rerouted or will start and end earlier. Some lines will even skip the impacted stations. Every ten minutes, replacement buses will shuttle passengers between Pasing and the main station on the trunk line.

While the S-Bahn may be down for the weekend, alternative transporters like the U-Bahn, bus, or regional trains are at your service. If you're aiming for the main station, the S6 and regional trains can transport you directly, without stops in between. Bus 130 also connects Pasing to the Westendstraße for your consideration. To maximize your options near the Heimeranplatz, the U4 will extend its reach to the Westendstraße. If you find yourself in the eastern part of the trunk line between the main station and Ostbahnhof, the U5 can serve as a suitable replacement, mimicking the S-Bahn's path.

Information kiosks will be stationed at affected stations displaying modifications to the network and information about replacement buses. In addition, extra kiosks will guide you from the stations to designated bus stops. QR codes will also be available to help direct you to the replacement buses.

Your Transit Options:

  1. Bus Services: Replacement buses often follow the same path as the trains they replace, offering a comparable service.
  2. U-Bahn and Tram: Utilize the U-Bahn and tram networks to reach your destinations. These transport alternatives can bypass affected areas and provide suitable routes.
  3. Walking or Cycling: Consider short trips on foot or by bike using bike lanes or pedestrian paths.
  4. Taxis/Ride-hailing Services: For those in need of additional convenience, taxis or ride-hailing services are available to get you around.

Visit MVG's website for updates on disruptions and alternative routes during the closure.

Specific Changes to S-Bahn Lines:

  • S1: Travels between Freising/Flughafen and Hauptbahnhof, with possible terminations at Moosach.
  • S2: Operates between Erding and Leuchtenbergring in the east, and between Petershausen and Heimeranplatz in the west.
  • S3: Available between Mammendorf and Pasing, and between Giesing and Holzkirchen.
  1. On weekends, when the S-Bahn in Munich is facing disruption due to construction works, passengers can take advantage of replacement buses that will parallel the S6 line, providing a similar service.
  2. The S6 line, along with regional trains, can transport passengers directly to Munich's main station without any stops between Pasing and the main station.
  3. Passengers may consider taking bus 130 as an alternative to navigate from Pasing to the Westendstraße.
  4. For passengers near the Heimeranplatz, they can utilize the extended U4 line, which reaches the Westendstraße as a suitable replacement for the S-Bahn.
  5. In the eastern part of the affected S-Bahn line between the main station and Ostbahnhof, the U5 line can serve as a replacement, mimicking the S-Bahn's path during the weekend halt.
