No more environmental zone in Mainz from now on - Mainz Lifts Environmental Zone: All Vehicles Welcome

Mainz has lifted its environmental zone, effective October 1st. This move allows all vehicles to enter the city, regardless of their emission levels. The change comes after years of only allowing cars with a green environmental sticker.

The City of Mainz's Environmental Department or Transportation Department typically oversees such changes, although specific details are not provided. This shift makes Mainz an exception in the Rhine-Main region, where neighboring cities like Wiesbaden and Frankfurt continue to enforce environmental zones.

The lifting of the environmental zone is due to significantly improved air quality in Mainz. Measured pollutant levels, such as nitrogen dioxide and fine dust, are well below the limits. Consequently, the legal basis for maintaining the environmental zone is no longer valid.

All signs indicating the environmental zone in Mainz are to be removed by 4:00 PM. Commuters are advised to be aware of the differing environmental zone regulations when traveling to neighboring cities. While a reintroduction of an environmental zone is possible, it would require a new legal basis.
