Major Police Operation Finds 25 Deficiencies in Hazardous Goods Transport
A major control operation was conducted on September 22, 2025, at the 'Zweidorfer Holz' rest area on the A2 highway near Braunschweig. The joint effort by multiple police forces aimed to address potential risks in the transportation of hazardous goods. The operation involved officers from various regions, including the Central Police Directorate, Police Academy, and police directors from Göttingen, Hannover, and Lüneburg. BALM inspectors from Hesse and Saxony-Anhalt also participated. Around 40 vehicles were inspected, with 25 found to have deficiencies, mainly related to cargo securing and social regulations. One vehicle, carrying 16,000 liters of a flammable liquid, was found with a non-functional braking system. This led to a prohibition of further travel, highlighting the serious risks involved in transporting such hazardous materials on public roads. Uwe Lange, Vice President of the Braunschweig Police Directorate, praised the efforts of all deployed forces. He stressed the importance of regular inspections to ensure traffic safety in the hazardous transport sector, as improperly handled hazardous goods pose significant risks to the public and environment.
