Mark your calendars for two upcoming events celebrating agriculture and food production in Hawaii. The 15th annual Hawaii Farmers Union convention and the 33rd Christmas with the Chefs event are both open to the public and offer a wealth of information and entertainment.
Starting with the Hawaii Farmers Union convention on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Kahaluu Ma Kai, Alii Drive, attendees can expect a full day of learning from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will cover a range of topics, including 'Microbial Hive' and regenerative growing techniques. Entertainment will be provided by Maka Gallinger & Son and Ku Ma'ema'e after the convention. While no speaker details were found for the discussion on Act 194 and resulting regulatory changes, other notable speakers include Hawaii Rep. Kirstin Kahaloa, Dr. Noa Kekuewa Lincoln, Dr. Saleh Azizi, and Dr. Noeau Perala.
The following month, on Saturday, Dec. 13, the 33rd Christmas with the Chefs event will be held at the Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa. This event will feature panel discussions on crucial topics such as farm and food safety, food hubs, loko'la, near-shore fisheries, and organic certification. Informational booths by various organizations will also be present. Early bird tickets for this event are available at $135 per person until Oct. 31.
Both events aim to educate and engage the community in the vital role of agriculture and food production. The Hawaii Farmers Union convention and the Christmas with the Chefs event are excellent opportunities for the public to learn, connect, and celebrate the importance of sustainable communities.
