Marsh McLennan Agency Sues Alliant for Poaching Employees and Clients
Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) has filed a lawsuit against Alliant Insurance Services, alleging that Alliant poached key commercial surety employees and clients. The case, which began in December 2024, involves a Huntsville, Alabama office and a prominent employee who left MMA for Alliant in January 2025.
Marsh alleges that Alliant induced key employees to breach non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements, interfering with Marsh's business relationships. This is not an isolated incident; Marsh has filed as many as 70 similar cases against Alliant. In December 2024, MMA sued Alliant for these claims, with a judge later blocking Alliant from soliciting MMA clients and issuing a permanent injunction against Alliant and former employees.
The Huntsville case involves an unnamed employee who left MMA to work for Alliant. Alliant argued against a restraining order, but the judge dismissed their argument, enforcing the restrictive covenants. Marsh claims that after this employee and three key surety team members resigned, clients began moving to Alliant. Marsh is suing to enforce restrictive covenants, protect confidential information, and halt Alliant's 'campaign of unfair competition'.
Marsh seeks injunctive relief, business losses, legal costs, damages, and punitive damages. The case is ongoing, with both parties presenting their arguments in court.
