Maruti Suzuki Marks Milestone: First Cars Cross Chenab Bridge to Kashmir by Rail
Maruti Suzuki has begun transporting vehicles to Kashmir via Indian Railways, crossing the world's highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab river. This marks a significant milestone in the company's logistics strategy and the transformative infrastructure projects led by the Prime Minister of India.
The Jammu - Srinagar railway line, part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, has been hailed as a game changer for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. Maruti Suzuki's vehicles are now traversing this crucial route, with the train recently crossing the record-breaking Chenab bridge.
Maruti Suzuki's foray into railway transportation began in 2013 when it became the first automaker to receive the Automobile Freight Train Operator license. Since then, the company has dispatched over 2.6 million vehicles using Indian Railways, integrating this mode into its logistics strategy. The use of railways allows for a more sustainable and efficient transportation of vehicles. Maruti Suzuki operates two in-plant railway sidings inside its Manesar and Gujarat manufacturing plants to facilitate this process.
Maruti Suzuki's use of Indian Railways to transport vehicles to Kashmir underscores the success of the Prime Minister of India's infrastructure projects. The company's commitment to sustainable logistics and efficient transportation methods is evident in this significant development.
