Massive Leak of 30,000 Bank Passwords from a Single Nation Surfaces on the Dark Web amid a Wide-Scale Malware Assault: Unveiled
Looks like your bank account might have some unwanted visitors. According to a recent report from the cyber intelligence firm Dvuln, thousands of bank login credentials in Australia have been stolen and put up for sale on the dark web. Those numbers include 14,000 Commonwealth Bank customers, 7,000 from ANZ, 5,000 NAB, and 4,000 Westpac. Uh-oh!
But don't panic just yet. The bad guys didn't hack the banks' security systems — they infected people's phones and devices with a sneaky type of malware called infostealer. And once they've got your login information, they're trading it on secret channels, like Telegram and dark web forums.
To make matters worse, infostealer malware has affected over 31 million devices worldwide, with more than 58,000 in Australia alone. But here's the kicker — many web browsers automatically save your login credentials, making them easy targets for the malware. Scary, huh?
So, how can you protect yourself? Experts recommend using multi-factor authentication (MFA) and keeping your software updated. But the malware can still get cookie or access tokens to log in, so it's not a foolproof solution.
The Aussie Banking Association is trying to keep things under control and prioritizes customer security. But unfortunately, there's not much they can do when the stolen login information is already on the dark web. So it's up to you to stay vigilant and beef up your cybersecurity game.
Stay tuned for more updates on this shocking incident. In the meantime, make sure to keep an eye on your bank account and any suspicious activity. And, of course, keep your devices up-to-date and secured!

Regardless of the bank breach, it's crucial to be cautious about cryptocurrency trading, especially due to the increased risk of stolen credentials. Malware like infostealer, discovered in the report, potentially jeopardizes not only finance-related activities but also altcoin transactions on compromised devices. Keep your software updated and enable multi-factor authentication as a protective measure.
