Mayor Reiner Breuer unveils initial blueprints for the forthcoming transformation of the former "Kaufhof" edifice.
In the heart of Neuss, Germany, exciting plans are being proposed for the revitalization of the former Kaufhof building in the city centre. The building, now managed by Neusser Bau and Immobilienmanagement GmbH (NBI) since April 2, 2024, is set to undergo a significant transformation.
The city-commissioned Gesellschaft für Markt- und Absatzforschung (GMA) presented these plans, which aim to breathe new life into the Neuss city centre. The SPD, led by Sascha Karbowiak, has emphasized the importance of making the city centre more attractive, and these plans align with their vision.
Mayor Reiner Breuer prefers to call the building the "Koven building" instead of "Kaufhof." He is fundamentally open to the Industrial Chamber of Commerce (IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein) using part of the building, a move that Jürgen Steinmetz, CEO of the IHK, is pleased with. If the IHK agrees, occupancy of the Koven building could happen as early as 2026.
The ground floor of the Koven building is planned to have a market hall-like character, with the potential for retail and healthcare facilities. Intermediate ceilings and facades may be removed to create a friendlier atmosphere. Architectural improvements for the upper floors, such as the creation of a light well to bring more light into the building, are also being considered.
Karbowiak, the SPD faction chairman, also welcomes the plans, expressing a desire for architectural improvements to make the facade more friendly. Steinmetz has welcomed the possibility of exemption from the designated communal land use area and building boundaries on the Wendersplatz for the IHK's construction project.
However, Schümann, chairman of the CDU faction, has warned that the city must not cut costs or cause delays elsewhere, especially in kindergartens and schools in Neuss. He stresses the importance of quickly finding tenants for the ground floor of the Koven building.
These plans for the Koven building are a significant step towards revitalizing Neuss city centre. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on this topic, it would be best to consult local news sources or official announcements from Neuss or related development authorities.
The SPD, led by Sascha Karbowiak, sees potential in investing in real-estate by supporting the revitalization plans for the Koven building, with a focus on education and healthcare facilities on the ground floor. In line with these plans, the Industrial Chamber of Commerce (IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein) may seek financing opportunities to occupy a part of the building, contributing to the city's financial growth.
