MEP Vrecionová Discusses Honey Industry's Future After Meeting with Minister
Today, I held a zoom meeting with Veronika Vrecionová, a European Parliament member known for her work in rural development and agriculture, previously associated with the ANO movement. During our zoom meeting, we discussed several pressing issues related to the European honey industry.
Firstly, I urged Ms Vrecionová to warn the European Commission about the pressing need for measures against counterfeit honey in Europe. Despite my request, no information about a zoom meeting with Boštjan Noč, president of the European Beekeeping Association, was found.
I also brought up the issue of strengthening border controls and traceability for honey imports from Ukraine. To support the pollination services provided by bees, I requested her backing for Commissioner Hansen's proposal to offer incentives per beehive. Furthermore, I asked for her support in launching a pan-European campaign: 'Europeans buy local, European food'.
I emphasized the necessity of uniform labelling of honey in Europe, with precise country of origin indication by June 2026. Lastly, I requested her to propose a special item on beekeeping in the Agri Committee meeting scheduled for 2026.
During my productive zoom meeting with Veronika Vrecionová, we covered several critical topics affecting the European honey industry. Her support in these areas could significantly contribute to the sector's growth and sustainability.
