Metaplanet Launches Bond Sales for Purchasing Bitcoin, Now 78% Closer to 2025 Objective
Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Portfolio with $21 Million Bond Sale
Japanese firm Metaplanet has announced a bond sale worth $21 million to Cayman Islands-based investment firm EVO FUND, continuing its efforts to amass one of the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holdings.
The zero-interest bond issuance is part of Metaplanet's broader strategy to finance its Bitcoin acquisitions. The company aims to hold 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025, with total debt raised this year reaching approximately $135.2 million.
The bond sale agreement allows for flexible repayment terms, with EVO FUND able to exit early by providing at least five days' notice. This structure provides the fund an exit option should it be necessary.
Metaplanet has shown creativity and persistence in raising funds specifically for Bitcoin purchases. The company's approach mirrors that of Strategy, which has been a pioneer in using corporate financing tools to purchase Bitcoin, rather than conventional investments.
This is not the first time Metaplanet has resorted to bond issuances for funding its Bitcoin purchases. The company had previously raised $25.9 million in February, $13.3 million in late March, and another $25 million earlier this month.
In another recent move, Metaplanet announced plans to establish a U.S. subsidiary, citing prospects of "expanding access to liquidity for institutional investors."
As of 2025, Metaplanet holds approximately 7,800 BTC, valued at over $840 million at current prices, reaching 78% of its goal. The company continues to rank among the top corporate Bitcoin holders globally.

Metaplanet's strategies for funding its Bitcoin acquisitions include issuing zero-interest bonds, such as the recent $21 million bond sale to EVO FUND. Apart from these bond issuances, Metaplanet has also turned to Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) as a means of crypto finance, demonstrating a diversified approach to investing in Bitcoin. As a result, Metaplanet has become one of the world's top corporate holders of BTC, with over 78% of its 10,000 BTC goal already achieved.
