Ministry affirms steps for crucial sustainable energy ventures completion
* Updates on Kuwait's Energy and Water Projects *
Things are moving fast in Kuwait's infrastructure sector! The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is speeding up works on key electricity and water generation projects, signaling a significant leap forward in the country's development.
According to reliable sources, the third and fourth phases of the Shagaya renewable energy project, as well as the Abdaliya integrated project, have been given the green light and forwarded to the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) for the establishment of a dedicated project company.
After signing a technical cooperation agreement with a Chinese state-owned company in March, the ministry swifty completed their internal approvals, and the appointment of a consultant by KDIPA is set for next month. This consultant will be in charge of preparing project documents and pushing forward with the project company establishment.
Once complete, the Shagaya and Abdaliya projects are set to produce an impressive combined 3,500 megawatts via photovoltaic panels. Contracts are expected to be signed by the end of 2025.
On another front, the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority recently opened financial bids for phases two and three of the Al-Zour North Power and Water Desalination Plant project. The final contract will be awarded following a review of technical offers, with the project targeted to deliver 2,700 megawatts of electricity and 120 million gallons of water.
Kuwait's minister and undersecretary are commended for their leadership in driving the swift execution of these strategic projects, aimed at building Kuwait's capacity to meet growing demands for electricity and water in the coming years.
Lastly, the Central Tenders Bureau recently approved a KWD 3.917 million tender for the reading of electricity and water meters in private facilities across all governorates. This initiative is part of wider goals to improve consumption accuracy, increase billing efficiency, and enhance overall service quality for subscribers throughout Kuwait.
