Moscow's Fountains Winterize: Conservation Measures Underway
Moscow's fountain season has concluded for 2022, with the final day falling on October 3rd. As the city prepares for winter, a series of conservation measures are underway to protect its iconic water features. This includes installing metal shields, removing technical equipment, and draining water from basins.
The process began with turning off fountain pumps sequentially to prevent water hammer. Specialists are now focusing on fountains with complex communications or decorative elements, ensuring they receive extra care. The 'Repin' and 'Pushkin' fountains will be shielded with metal to protect them during the cold months. Underwater lighting fixtures and technical equipment have been removed from these fountains.
In Gorky Park, the LED fountain is expected to take around six days to drain completely. Meanwhile, the LED fountain in the 'Tsaritsyno' museum-reserve park will be covered with an inflatable dome for protection. Floating fountains on the Water Drainage Canal and in the Brateevo Pond are being completely dismantled. After shutdown, specialists will clean basins and sculptures using a special solution.
The shutdown process for Moscow's fountains is well underway, with each water feature receiving careful attention. By implementing these conservation measures, the city ensures its fountains remain in excellent condition for the next fountain season, which typically begins on May 1st.
