Munich's road is eager for enhanced connectivity
In the heart of Munich, the district of Pasing-Obermenzing is facing a persistent issue with public transport, particularly in the Berduxstraße area. The district council and a local committee have been advocating for a solution, with the demand for a Berduxstraße S-Bahn stop being a recurring request.
The MVG, Munich's public transport authority, has been testing measures to improve bus line 161, focusing on increasing service frequency and operational adjustments during peak hours. However, specific actions for line 161 have not been explicitly stated. The authority aims to ease congestion and improve punctuality by increasing trips and personnel during high-demand periods.
Despite these efforts, the current public transport situation in the Berduxstraße area has left both the committee and the district council dissatisfied. In October and November 2024, the 10-minute interval during peak times could not be maintained for line 161. This tense staff situation has also affected other lines, such as during the replacement traffic for the U3 and U6 underground lines in May this year.
The promise of a good connection for future residents in the Berduxstraße new development area has not yet been fulfilled. The city works announced that the goal is to run the entire offer on line 161 continuously again by the end of the year, but this depends on successful recruitment and training of staff.
The use of articulated buses, which could potentially alleviate the congestion, is not feasible for line 161 due to financial difficulties and lack of vehicle availability. The line continues every 20 minutes at Berduxstraße as line 180, preventing the short-term use of articulated buses.
The district council sees an urgent need for action, as the new development area on Berduxstraße needs better access to public transport. They believe that the Berduxstraße S-Bahn stop is a crucial step towards solving this issue. The BA (Bayerische Obersten Verwaltungsgerichtshof) finds the decision-making situation understandable but cannot accept it as is.
The committee's demand for the Berduxstraße S-Bahn stop is related to the urgent need for better access to public transport in the area. The city works responded that short-term improvements on the line are not feasible for various reasons, leaving the issue unresolved for now. The district council and the committee continue to push for a timely solution, hoping to improve the public transport situation in the Berduxstraße area for the benefit of its residents and future development.
