National Retail Federation Reveals 2025 Top 50 Global Retailers Despite Market Uncertainties
The National Retail Federation has revealed the 2025 Top 50 Global Retailers. Despite market uncertainties, the industry experienced growth in 2024. The list features prominent names like Schwarz Group, Aldi, Costco Wholesale, and Walmart, with Amazon securing the second spot.
The top 10 includes familiar names such as Carrefour, Seven & I, IKEA, and The Home Depot. To qualify, retailers must have a direct investment in at least three countries. The ranking, based on Kantar's system, awards points based on domestic and international retail revenues.
2024 saw supply chain costs ease and wages rise in most countries. Retailers engaged in mergers, acquisitions, and infrastructure investments. However, ecommerce sales slowed as shoppers returned to physical stores and shopping centers.
Walmart retains its position as the largest global retailer. In Germany, the top three retailers for 2025, based on 2024 sales, are Lidl, REWE Group, and EDEKA, with revenues of approximately €88.6 billion, €84.0 billion, and €68.2 billion respectively. The retail industry's resilience and growth underscore its adaptability in the face of market challenges.
