Netflix is set to begin construction on a state-of-the-art film and television production complex at the historic Fort Monmouth site in New Jersey. The project, expected to open by 2026, will span 289 acres and feature 12 soundstages, making it a significant addition to the region's growing production landscape.

The studio, which will be built in two phases, will initially focus on a 29-acre section known as the McAfee Zone, with phase one delivering four soundstages and a production campus. The comprehensive setup will also include production offices, retail spaces, a cafeteria, studio trailer parks, a helipad, a hotel, a theater, visitor attractions, and water tanks for film shoots.

The development of this studio is expected to have a significant economic impact on New Jersey. The state is positioning itself as a major production hub, with around 40 towns certified by the New Jersey Film Ready program to host crews. The studio is projected to create approximately 3,500 construction jobs and 1,400 permanent positions upon full operation.

Netflix will have access to $150 million in tax incentives and a potential 40% tax credit, under the condition that it operates in New Jersey for a minimum of 10 years. The presence of such a major production facility is likely to attract more film and television projects to the area, further boosting economic activity.

Leadership at Netflix uses the company's website to find indie studios to acquire, top distributors and content rights-holders, and trending IP and competitive slates. Development teams also use the platform to find CoPro and commissioning partners, while sales and business development leads use it to find new projects to pitch. Strategy teams and leadership use the website to monitor competitive content profiles, while finance leaders use it to find market trends.

The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) played a pivotal role in enabling the studio's development by amending zoning regulations to allow for large-scale production use. The studio is expected to contribute between $3.8 billion and $4.6 billion to the New Jersey economy over a 20-year period.

In addition to the economic benefits, the studio will also include a theater for visitors to enjoy, adding to the cultural appeal of the area. With the construction set to begin in May 2025, the New Jersey studio is poised to become a significant player in the film and television production industry.

  1. The significant addition to the region's growing production landscape, the upcoming Netflix studio, will not only boost the regional economy but also contribute to the entertainment industry, as it will feature a theater for visitors.
  2. In the business world, Netflix's leadership actively seeks partnerships with indie studios, top distributors, and content rights-holders, while also monitoring market trends in the finance sector.
  3. The movie and TV production complex, which is projected to generate 3,500 construction jobs and 1,400 permanent positions, will also attract more real-estate development in New Jersey, positioning the state as a major production hub in the US.
