New transit service unveiled: Direct bus connection from east end Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations to Ottawa Airport

Ottawa's public transit system, OC Transpo, launches a fresh bus route linking the Ottawa International Airport to St-Laurent and Hurdman Stations, which comes eight months after the introduction of the O-Train Line 4 offering direct rail service to the airport.

New transit service unveiled: Direct bus connection from east end Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations to Ottawa Airport

The public transportation landscape in Ottawa is about to change, as OC Transpo introduces a new bus route, Route 105, connecting the Ottawa International Airport with St-Laurent and Hurdman Stations. The service is set to launch on Sunday, Aug. 24 [2].

Route 105 is designed to offer more travel options for east-end residents reaching the Airport, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, approximately every 30 minutes [1][3]. When O-Train Line 1 is not running at night, buses will connect the Airport with Rideau and Hurdman Stations to maintain service [1].

The route provides direct connections to the Airport from O-Train Line 1 at Hurdman Station and from intercity buses and trains at St-Laurent and Tremblay Stations [3]. It supplements the existing O-Train Line 4 service between South Keys station and the Ottawa Airport, which started about eight months prior [6].

Route 105 connects with Line 1 at Hurdman but does not replace Line 4 or Line 2 operations. It adds a new frequent bus service alternative for airport access, linking key transit nodes including St-Laurent (also served by intercity buses and trains), thus expanding options without impacting Line 2 (the main East-West line) schedules directly [1][3].

Approximately 1,000 customers per day ride Line 4 between South Keys Station and the Ottawa Airport station [7]. The route is being introduced to enhance connections between the airport, the southeast Transitway, the Via Rail Station, intercity buses, and the east end [8].

For most riders, the O-Train will continue to be the fastest option for travel to downtown and the west end [9]. However, with the introduction of Route 105, commuters from the east end will have a more convenient and frequent bus service to reach the airport.

The route was named in honor of the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow, a supersonic aircraft and symbol of Canadian innovation [10]. More details about the schedule arrangements for O-Train Line 2 will be announced when they are complete [5].

In summary, Route 105 is a valuable addition to the transportation options in Ottawa, providing a 24/7 bus service connecting the Airport, St-Laurent Station, and Hurdman Station, complementing O-Train Line 4 and Lines 1 and 2 by broadening service hours and connections to the airport for east-end and downtown riders [1][3][4][5].
