The state's exports in the first half of 2019 reached €98.5 billion, a marginal decrease of 0.9%, while imports climbed 3.3% to €124.7 billion. In June alone, imports stood at €20.1 billion, a slight decrease of 1.5%.

The sharpest export declines were seen in the UK (-20.1%), the USA (-16.1%), and China (-9.0%). These significant drops in exports to major trading partners contributed heavily to the overall trade deficit.

North Rhine-Westphalia's trade performance in June 2019 was marked by a substantial trade deficit, driven by significant export declines to the UK, USA, and China.
