North Rhine-Westphalia's trade figures for June 2019 reveal a significant deficit, primarily due to substantial drops in exports to key markets. Exports totalled €15.8 billion, down 8.5% from the previous year.
The state's exports in the first half of 2019 reached €98.5 billion, a marginal decrease of 0.9%, while imports climbed 3.3% to €124.7 billion. In June alone, imports stood at €20.1 billion, a slight decrease of 1.5%.
The sharpest export declines were seen in the UK (-20.1%), the USA (-16.1%), and China (-9.0%). These significant drops in exports to major trading partners contributed heavily to the overall trade deficit.
North Rhine-Westphalia's trade performance in June 2019 was marked by a substantial trade deficit, driven by significant export declines to the UK, USA, and China. Despite a slight decrease in imports, the state's total export value for the first half of the year remained relatively stable, indicating a need for strategic focus on key markets to boost exports and reduce the deficit.
