UK tour by Oasis predicted to generate approximately £1.1 billion for the economy, yet potential for increasing inflation is noted

Oasis's upcoming tour in the UK is predicted to contribute approximately £1.1 billion to the country's economy, however, it might exacerbate inflationary pressures.

In a remarkable turn of events, the highly anticipated Oasis reunion tour is set to bring in over £1.1 billion for the British economy, according to recent estimates. This figure is comparable to the economic impact of Taylor Swift's Eras tour, each generating around £1 billion within the UK.

The tour, consisting of 17 concerts, kicks off in Manchester, the home of Oasis's frontmen Liam and Noel Gallagher, and will culminate in Edinburgh on September 28. The intense demand for tickets has caused a rush among fans, with hundreds of thousands battling to secure them.

Ticket sales alone among the 900,000 die-hard Oasis fans are estimated to have hit £217 million. The average concertgoer is thought to have spent £159 each on food and drink, resulting in an estimated £219.3 million in hospitality expenditure. Travel and accommodation costs have also been significant, with fans believed to have splashed out around £166 million.

The reunion tour has infused funds into associated merchandise sales and hospitality sectors, and it's been considered a prime example of nostalgia-driven economic activity impacting the UK economy and inflation dynamics. Hotel prices in Manchester have spiked at £234 per night, a 500% increase from typical mid-week rates, while Edinburgh has seen hotel prices skyrocket by 65% year-on-year for three-star venues and 50% up for four-star ones.

The seven sell-out shows in London are anticipated to rake in at least £476 million, with Manchester set to receive around £302 million. Edinburgh is predicted to have its coffers boosted to the tune of £151 million, and Cardiff is thought to have seen Oasis's opening two shows earn it £112 million.

The economic impact of the tour extends beyond ticket sales and merchandise. The Gallagher brothers Noel and Liam could net them personally as much as £100 million each from the tour. However, the tour has also caused an inflation headache for the Bank of England, as Taylor Swift's fans spent hugely on tickets, travel, and hotels on her UK tour.

Capital Economics warned that there could be a greater chance of an effect on the UK economy with the Oasis concerts. The economic boost from the tour is expected to contribute modestly to inflation by about four basis points in Q3 2025. Despite the economic impact, the tour is a testament to the enduring popularity of Oasis and the power of nostalgia in the music industry.
