Neuss, Germany - The city of Neuss has announced a significant renovation project for one of its bridges, with the demolition of affected sections scheduled for mid-September 2025. The bridge, built between 1970 and 1973, has been suffering from leaking drainage facilities in many areas, and some road inlet boxes (sunken boxes) are rusted through in the bridge area.

The closure of certain spans on the bridge was initiated earlier than planned on July 14, 2025, following regular bridge inspections. The affected spans are Span 1 (connecting from Barbaraviertel to Neusser Furth/Fesserstraße) and Span 6 (pedestrian and cycle path from the city center to Furth). North/southbound cycle and pedestrian traffic can pass via Span 5 (Green), the bridge in the direction of Neusser Furth.

For individual traffic coming from Handweiser, a detour via Gladbacher and Römerstraße is available and signposted. Citizens from the Barbaraviertel can reach Furth via Bockholt-, Bataverstraße or via Salz- and Further Straße (main station). The one-way traffic regulation in the partial area of the Dyckhofstraße towards Düsseldorf Street will be lifted after the demolition work.

The road inlets will also be renewed as part of the renovation. After the demolition work, further safety measures will be carried out on the remaining connecting spans. The area under the bridge structure will also be closed during the renovation process.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on the closure, detour routes, and renovation plans, it is recommended to check local municipal websites, transportation authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia, or news sources closer to or after that date. The VRR (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr) website often lists current and upcoming construction sites affecting train and public transport lines in the region, but no relevant data was found for this particular bridge closure.

The significant renovation project in Neuss, Germany, involves not only the demolition of affected bridge sections but also the upgrade of road inlets, which are a part of the finance and transportation sectors. The closure of certain spans on the bridge, including the ones in the industry sector such as Span 1 and Span 6, has already been implemented, affecting both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
