Oklahoma WIC Switches Infant Formula to Similac in October
The Oklahoma Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is set to switch its infant formula manufacturer in October. Participants will transition from Gerber to Similac brand contract infant formulas. The change aims to maintain the same quality and variety of formulas, ensuring all infants continue to receive appropriate nutrition.
The switch will not affect the nutrition and quality standards set by the FDA. Babies requiring medically indicated formulas will not need to change formulas. Most infants can switch to a similar Similac formula without issue, but some may experience temporary changes in stool or spit up. Participants can check their WIC benefit balance before shopping via wicconnect.com, phone, or in-store inquiries. If clients have concerns during the transition, they should contact their WIC Clinic or their child's healthcare provider. The new contract with Similac will continue to offer milk-based, low-lactose, and soy-based formula options. The Oklahoma WIC program will communicate the formula transition to all impacted participants in the coming weeks. Infants previously receiving standard Gerber brand formula benefits will automatically switch to comparable Similac formulas in October. The program assures that the transition will not disrupt the nutritional needs of the infants.
